The generosity movement known as GivingTuesday returns to LaGrange College on Dec. 2.
The initiative was created in 2012, mobilizing people and organizations worldwide to give back, collaborate and celebrate generosity.
“We are encouraging alumni, family, friends and community philanthropists to invest in the future of Panther students through your gifts on GivingTuesday, which will primarily fund institutional scholarships,” said Scott Rivinius, the college’s Vice President for Advancement. “For many students, the support of donors makes the difference between dreaming about college and living the LaGrange experience.”
At LaGrange College, the dedicated day of giving provides an opportunity to extend the close-knit community’s commitment to soulful service, leadership and student success.
“As an alumna, I know firsthand what a purposeful place our college is—and your support keeps that experience strong for the next generation,” said Jennifer Beedy Booker ’90, Assistant Director of the LC Fund. “When we give back, we're making sure today's students get the same opportunities—and maybe even better ones—that shaped our own paths.”
Three generous alumni have agreed to a total of $25,000 in matching gifts to inspire others to join the movement. Alumnus Ray Cox ’70 of Rome, Georgia, is matching up to $10,000; an anonymous member of the Class of 1980 has also pledged to match at least $10,000; and alumnus John West '73, of Sherman, Texas, is matching up to $5,000.
“We are so thankful for these generous matching opportunities from our alumni donors,” said Andy Geeter, LC Director of Philanthropy. “Because of their generosity, the impact of the first $25,000 in gifts for GivingTuesday will be doubled.”
Donations will be directed to the LaGrange College Fund, which funds students’ guided growth, primarily through institutional scholarships. From the full-tuition Presidential Learning Scholarship to the $15,000 annual Gateway Scholarship, these merit-based awards alleviate higher education costs for students, such as sophomore Solomon Morgan, a Music Production & Audio Engineering major.
“When I originally opened up those scholarship packages and saw how much the school was offering to me, it was just a blessing,” he said. “It really was something my family and I prayed about. It was an answer to prayer, I'll be honest with you, and it's a huge financial blessing.”
Anyone who wishes to make a gift to support LC students as part of GivingTuesday can visit www.lagrange.edu/givingtuesday by the end of Dec. 2.
